Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Kegel Weights

What Do Weights Do for Your Pelvic Floor Muscles?

Women have used traditional ben wa balls to strengthen vaginal muscles and address pelvic floor problems for centuries. Over the years, these small, weighted balls that help in contracting and relaxing vaginal muscles with ease have been continually developed to improve their efficacy. Kegel weights give your pelvic floor muscles an object to contract around, tightening them as you squeeze and lift. Contracting and relaxing these muscles both strengthens and tones them which can alleviate certain pelvic floor conditions, prepare you for or aid in recovery from childbirth, and prevent leaky bladders. Consistent training with kegel weights strengthens these muscles quickly, making it easy to feel improvement!

Kegel balls are also known to boost sexual pleasure, earning them nicknames like orgasm balls, Venus balls, love balls, and pleasure balls. By giving your muscles an object to contract around, you can feel the muscles tighten when you squeeze and lift. Consequently, these balls don't just strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, but also tone your vagina, which can lead to more enjoyment during sex.

Non-contact traditional Kegel exercises, such as contraction during urination, work the same muscles as these weights do. However, an exercise program that includes resistance training with vaginal weights will strengthen and tone the pelvic floor muscles much faster. These muscles support a number of internal organs, so resistance is as critical to Kegels as strength.

Who Can Use Kegel Balls?

Women of all ages can perform and benefit from kegel exercise. However, those with certain medical conditions should consult their physician before starting pelvic floor exercises. Talk to your doctor if you:

  • Are expecting
  • Are recovering from childbirth
  • Are recovering from gynecological surgery
  • Are experiencing pelvic pain
  • Have contracted a pelvic infection
  • Have an IUD

Risks associated with kegel exercise include irritation, pain or discomfort, and, in rare cases, tearing. The best way to mitigate these risks is to choose the right product for your body and to use it properly.

Select the appropriate kegel weight for your body with our product guidelines and follow the included guide for safe and proper kegel exercise techniques. Carefully read the product packaging for additional information before your first use.

How Do You Prepare Your Kegel Balls?

  • It is important to practice good hygiene when handling and using your kegel weights. Follow the below instructions before use:

    1. Thoroughly wash hands with antibacterial soap.
    2. Wash weights with mild soap and warm water.
    3. Dry weights with a clean towel.
    4. Apply a generous amount of water-based lubricant to weights to ease insertion.

Do not use silicone or oil-based lubricants, as they can damage your weights or cause irritation.

How Do You Insert Kegel Balls?

Once your kegel weights have been properly prepared, follow the below instructions.

  1. Apply a small amount of water-based lubricant to the opening of your vagina.
  2. Find a comfortable sitting or standing position and gently insert the weight the way you would a tampon.
  3. Once it's comfortably in place with the cord outside of your body, tighten your pelvic floor muscles to hold it inside. If it feels like it is falling out, gently push it back in. The weight should be securely in place while you exercise.
